Are Mixed Martial Artists Crazy?

The Washington Post put up a pretty interesting article about the recent UFC card and fighter Brandon Vera.   It contains the usual inaccuracies about Dana White instituting all new rules to save the sport, but the parts that focus on Vera and his thought process going into the fight are quite good.

Its pretty obvious that the writer was a bit taken aback by the level of violence in the sport.  The article shows the long road that MMA, and in particular the UFC still has to travel in order to establish themselves as a legitimate mainstream sport.   The writer mentions that only 1 of 9 fights went the distance but neglects to note that there was only 2 of the 8 stopped matches were due to knockouts, a number that is comparable to most boxing cards.

None the less, it is great to see MMA getting this kind of semi-positive coverage in a huge national newspaper.
