Canes claim Cup

What a game last night. If you missed it, shame on you! The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers in a thrilling game 7, 3-1, to win their first ever Stanley Cup in team history. Without question, the toughest Championship in Sports to win. For those that doubted hockey would ever make a comeback, this game capped off what was an amazing season and showed that the game is better than ever.
The Canes were lead by the impressive goaltending of rookie Cam Ward, who became the first rookie Goaltender since Patrick Roy, twenty years ago, to win both the Stanley Cup and The Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP of the Finals.
For the likes of Captain Rod Brind’Amour, who waited seventeen years to raise the Cup, along with several veterans like gritty Forward Kevyn Adams, who played the whole game despite breaking his wrist, along with Eric Cole coming back from a broken neck to play, and Defenseman Glen Wesley who waited fourteen years to sip out of Lord Stanley’s mug, it was long overdue.
With Eric Staal breaking out this season, the Hurricanes will definitely be a force for years to follow, as they will be the new team to beat.
You have to feel for the 8th seeded Oilers and especially their fans who were amazing throughout this whole Playoff run. With the bright future ahead of them, youngsters like Pisani, Stoll, Hemsky, Greene have all gained valuable experience and will no doubt help the Oilers contend again.
